POISON DART FROG
The Poison Dart Frog is the most poisonous frog of all frogs. It can kill numerous animals or people just by touching their skin. There are more than 100 different species of poison dart frogs in the world. This essay is about poison dart frogs and how they are unique.

Poison dart frogs live in the rainforests of Central and South America. They also live on the Hawaiian Islands. Poison dart frogs live 2-3 years in the wild, but in captivity they can live more than 10 years. These unique frogs catch spiders, crickets, ants, and termites with their long sticky tongues. They are very colorful and can be found in blue, yellow, red, green, black and orange.

Poison dart frogs go through a life cycle called metamorphosis, just like butterflies. The dart frogs lay 2-12 eggs normally. In 7 days, the eggs become tadpoles and within 35 days, they will be froglets. Froglets are frogs with tails. Then in 6-8 weeks they will become a fully grown poison dart frog. Their size is around 1-2 in. in length. The tiniest poison dart frog is the size of a cricket.

The poison dart frog gets its poison from the insects it eats. The poison is released through the frog’s skin when they eat insects or plants from the rainforest. If a person or animal touches the frogs skin, they will die. Frogs that are born in the zoo, however, never become poisonous because they haven’t eaten plants or insects from the rainforest. These dart frogs are very colorful so as to warn any kind of enemy that they are dangerous. The Strawberry poison dart frog is the least poisonous of all frogs. It will not kill a human or animal, but it will, however, make humans or animals skin swell and burn.

The poison dart frog is so small, yet so poisonous. Their colors are very bright, and each frog is one of a kind. Their life cycle is shorter than other animals, because they are very small. These animals are endangered and depend on a humid jungle for survival. Poison dart frogs are a unique part of the rain forest.
